Becoming This // 2021
Becoming This is a series of poetry mostly compiled in the stillness of the 2020 COVID lockdown. A time full of introspective delves into oceans of obscurity, brought only to light by the forced change in normality and the tinnitus of silence’s questions. In this time more than ever I have been grateful for the medicine of musings and words. They have provided an articulation and understanding of inner landscapes and emotional climates – an understanding which otherwise would be left to collect dust under the bed of modern life’s infatuation with busyness and escapism. It’s been a time of accepting home and peace within the walls surrounding this beating heart; a time of surrendering shamelessly to the currents of this human experience, rising not just for gasps of air but to walk on water with our heads held high, harnessing our power, realising breath is always ours if we courageously open our lungs to let it in.
I hope these words find you in the moments where you need them most. I hope these words kiss your forehead and tuck you into bed when you feel alone and I hope they kiss your lips as though you are an oasis in the driest of deserts. I hope you find pieces of you in them, just as I’ve done. But most of all, I hope they hold a mirror up to you – you and the beauty that radiates in the very places that you thought to be desolate.
